Guide dog saves trainers from out of control car
A guide dog saved a man and a woman dog trainers in California when a vehicle swerve through a public sidewalk at high speed.
Todd Jurek and Danielle Alvarado, both employees of Guide Dogs for the Blind which trains dogs to assist visually impaired individuals, were training a dog in San Rafael, California when a 93-year-old woman who's trying to park her car lost control and put the car in reverse that smashed windows of some establishments. They were taking an 18-month-old Labrador retriever named O’Neil, out for a training walk when it happened.
"It was just an unbelievable sight to see something going backwards, barreling down the sidewalk," Jurek told the paper.
One of the trainers is blindfolded as part of the dog's training, they didn't see the fast approaching car but O’Neil sensed something is wrong and pulled his head backward, and it caught Jurek's attention who then also looked backward just in time to see the car.
Jurek said O’Neil underwent a series of tests on Tuesday to ensure he was not traumatized by the incident. Guide Dogs for the Blind says it hopes to have the courageous pup placed with an individual sometime in the coming weeks.
The news was reported by San Jose Mercury News.

Dog saved missing Polish girl
A small dog saved the life of a three-year-old girl who went missing in Poland and spent the night in freezing temperatures, according to Polish firefighters.
The little girl named Julia, disappeared on Friday and was found lying in marshes several kilometres from her house on Saturday morning, with the dog by her side.
Firefighters who found the girl said the dog kept the child warm enough throughout the night, with temperatures plunging to minus five degrees Celsius.
More than 250 firefighters, police officers, rescue workers and residents searched for the child throughout the night.
They also employed a police helicopter with infrared cameras and six search dogs to look for the girl.
Julia was taken to a hospital where she is recovering. She appears to have suffered some frostbite but her health condition is not life-threatening, the hospital said.
