Hartsdale Pet Cemetery is now a Historic Place
Hartsdale Pet Cemetery is now a Historic Place and the first animal burial ground to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places by the National Park Services.
The 115-year-old Hartsdale Pet Cemetery is home to more than 70,000 pets.
"The addition of Hartsdale Pet Cemetery to the Register is a fitting way to recognize the long-standing and significant role animal companions have played in our nation's history and culture," Carol Shull, interim keeper of the National Register of Historic Places, said in a news release.
Hartsdale Pet Cemetery is also known for its War Dog Memorial, dedicated after WWI as a public tribute to honor military working dogs.
