Check out best of buddies Milo the Dachshund and Bonedigger the lion. They both live at the G.W. Zoo in Oklahoma and have been best buddies since Bonedigger was born at the facility.
Milo looks after the big cat, who has a bone disease that leaves him mildly crippled. Size difference is a non-issue for these friends, as their lick each other''s mouth.

Raw food are said to be dangerous for pets

Raw pet foods are uncooked meat, organs, and soft bones. There have been some disagreements if this pet diet has nutritional benefits or if it is detrimental to the pet's health.

Those who are supporting the raw pet food diet argue that the contents of raw food are more biologically appropriate than commercial pet foods. They said that the results of this diet is improved coat quality, healthy teeth, and prevention of disease like diabetes, and prevention of allergies.

Those who are not in favor of this diet are saying that scientific research shows that feeding raw food may result to nutrient deficiencies, like calcium. And there are also harmful bacteria found in raw foods like Salmonella, Clostridium difficile, and E. coli.

Dogs may not show symptoms that they are infected but they can spread the bacteria through their stool.

The Canadian Association of Raw Pet Food Manufacturers will be implementing tighter production regulations to eliminate and prevent bacterial contamination in their raw pet food products.

Whichever diet you'll be giving to your pets it is always best to consult the veterinarian, because you can never tell if your pet has allergic reaction to the pet food.

Pets in the US today lives longer

Banfield Pet Hospital release their 2013 State of Pet Health Report and things are looking good for our four legged friends. The report stated increase in lifespan of both dogs and cats. The average lifespan of a dog in 2012 was 11 years which is up nearly half a year since 2002 (4% increase), while the average lifespan of a cat in 2012 was 12, which gone up by 1 year since 2002 (10% increase). The report also stated that the small breed dogs live longer than giant breeds.

The States with the longest lifespan for dogs are South Dakota, Montana, Oregon, New Mexico, and Colorado. While states with the shortest lifespan for dogs are Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Delaware, and Massachusetts.

For cats, the states with the longest lifespan are Montana, Colorado, Rhode Island, Illinois, and Nebraska. While states with the shortest lifespan for cats are Delaware, Ohio, Louisiana, Kentucky, and Mississippi.

Obesity has caught up with our cats and dogs, overweight and obesity have reached epidemic levels in dogs and cats in the United States, affecting approximately 1 in 5 dogs and cats. Although some might consider pets to be cuter or happier when they are overweight, the truth is, being overweight is linked to  other serious conditions such as arthritis, heart and respiratory problems and diabetes mellitus (cats).

Pit bull Saves Woman in Long Island

A pit bull saved a woman's life from a fire that gutted her Long Island home in New York on Friday May 3, 2013. The pit bull started barking to warn her owner as the flames spread into the whole house.

Jackie Bonasera the owner said she was in the bathroom drying her hair on Gabriele Drive in East Norwich when she heard the pet pit bull barking. She immediately ran downstairs and saw the huge flames on her garage. She was able to ran out of the house.

“I ran out of the house and my neighbors came running over, and then I thought about the dog – I'm like, 'He saved my life, I have to save his,” said Jackie Bonasera.

“I just put my robe over my face and I ran back in and I grabbed the dog and then I stood out here and I watched my house burn.”

Cain the pit bull saves her life, and in return Jackie saves Cain life too.

More than 70 firefighters were needed to stop the fire. Although the cause of the blaze has not been determined and the arson squad is investigating, police don't believe it's suspicious.

Doberman Plays with Baby Girl

A Doberman named Lily looks cute playing with an adorable baby girl  Addison. Ashley Breuer of Savannah, Ga., is the owner of the dog.

"At least once a day she's trying to play with Addison. Lily has even trained Addison to hold one of her chew toys so Lily can lick it and try to get the treats out," the owner said.

"My husband was deployed in February of 2012 and I was pregnant with Addison at the time, so I moved up to Minnesota with my parents," she said. "My parents had a German shepherd that was fabulous with the baby, but just in case, Lily would always nudge in front to get in between the two of them."

Pets Abandoned in Texas after fertilizer explosion rescued

Fertilizer explosion near Waco Texas killed 14 people and injured 200 and displaced a lot of families. It also left a lot of pets abandoned by their owners after the blasts and chaos. Volunteers have rescued 60 animals, mostly dogs, which were roaming the evacuation zone.

The rescue workers use the social media like Facebook and Twitter to find their owner.

“We’ve had some quick reunions. Social media has made it so fantastic.”, animal rescue worker Michelle Nemec said. She also said that a lot of rescued pets are still “shell shocked.”

Sanitation Worker Rescues Dog

A Sanitation Worker in New York City rescued a dog left in a trash bag. The dog was close to be dumped in a land fill when a sanitation worker (Vicky Roland) saw the bag move and open it to her surprise inside the bag was a Tzi tsu named Victoria.

" I reached for the bag and something moved and I found her in the bag. If she would have not moved she would have been back in the truck" stated by the worker.

The dog when found was in a horrible condition and can barely stand. The dog was taken to a local animal shelter and is now recovering.
